Tefal makes two families of steam generator. Pro Express models are high-pressure boiler units (7.5–9 bar) with Tefal’s removable scale collector, which is the easiest descaling system on the market. Express models are simpler and cheaper, with lower pressure and flush-style descaling. All current models use Tefal’s Durilium AirGlide soleplate, one of the best-gliding soleplates available. Tefal’s newest flagship, the Pro Express Vision Max GV9910, raises steam to 215g/min, but we couldn’t find an independent UK review of it yet.

The Ultimate II has been one of Tefal’s best sellers for years. It has strong steam and boost, an anti-drip system and no settings at all: one preset temperature and steam combination that Tefal says is safe for every fabric. It is often discounted, which makes it good value. Unlike the newer Protect, Tefal doesn’t list an auto shut-off.

Tefal Pro Express vs Express: what's the difference?
- Pressure: Pro Express models run at 7.5–9 bar, while Express models run at about 5–6.6 bar. Higher pressure pushes steam through thick fabric, so you can often iron one side only.
- Descaling: Pro Express models have a removable scale collector that you slide out and rinse. Express models are flushed through a drain valve, which is slower and messier.
- Price: Express models cost roughly half as much.
If you iron more than a couple of hours a week, the Pro Express is worth the extra. For lighter use, the Express Airglide is excellent value.
