Quick answer: the best cordless iron is the Tefal Freemove Power FV6676. It weighs under 1kg, has the strongest steam shot of the cordless irons Mumsnet tested (220g) and recharges in about 11 seconds on its base. Mumsnet named it the best cordless iron of 2026. For hard water and a bigger tank, choose the Morphy Richards easyCHARGE 303250. On a budget, the Tower CeraGlide T22008 works corded or cordless.
A cordless iron heats up on a charging base, then you iron without a cable dragging across your clothes. The trade-off is heat: most cordless irons stay hot enough to steam for only about 25–35 seconds before you need to dock them again. Which? has found cordless irons score lower on average than corded ones for this reason. They are brilliant for shirts, small loads and awkward spaces, but for big piles a corded steam iron or steam generator is faster.

How we chose these picks
We compared the manufacturers’ published specifications, independent UK tests and reviews (including Mumsnet's best cordless irons (May 2026), Expert Reviews' best cordless irons, Which? research on cordless irons, Swan SI16410N product page at shop.swan-brand.co.uk (checked 21 October 2026)), and recurring themes in verified owner reviews. We checked that every product was on sale in the UK when this page was last updated, and we re-check stock every month. We do not hands-on test products ourselves, and we say so on every review. - Weight: 960g
- Base: Horizontal slide-in
The Freemove Power is light, quick to recharge and has the best steam shot among the cordless irons Mumsnet tested. The horizontal base means you slide the iron back in without lifting it upright, which is easier on the wrist. It was Mumsnet’s best overall cordless iron in 2026.
- Under 1kg
- Strongest cordless steam shot
- Fast 11-second recharge
- Easy slide-in base
- 250ml tank is on the small side

- Recharge: Under 40s (Amazon listing)
- Weight: 1.39kg

You can drop the easyCHARGE onto its 360° base from any direction, and a light shows when it is ready. It has a big 350ml tank and an effective limescale system, and Expert Reviews picked it for hard-water areas.
- Dock from any direction
- Large tank
- Good limescale protection
- Slower recharge than the Tefal

- Base: Cord or cordless
The T22008 is cheap, light and can run corded or cordless, so you can plug it in for a big session. Good Housekeeping named it the best budget steam iron in 2023, and Expert Reviews rates it as the best cordless hybrid.
- Very cheap
- Corded or cordless
- Big 360ml tank
- Steam drops off quickly off the base
- Steam shot can drip
Our verdict: Budget buyers who want flexibility.
Best value 360° base

- Power: 2800W
- Continuous steam: not published
- Steam shot: not published
- Tank: 370ml
- Recharge: About 10s
- Weight: not published
- Base: 360°, cord or cordless
A newer Tower with more power (2800W), a 360° base, a very fast 10-second recharge and a bigger 370ml tank. Independent test data is limited, so we rate it slightly below the proven T22008.
- Fast 10s recharge
- 360° base
- Corded option
- Little independent testing so far
Our verdict: Value buyers who want quick recharging.
Cheapest 360° base
Swan 2-in-1 Cord or Cordless SI16410N: Cheapest 360° base
- Power: 2800W
- Continuous steam: not published
- Steam shot: 120g/min
- Tank: 300ml
- Recharge: not published
- Weight: 1.6kg
- Base: 360°, cord or cordless
Swan does not publish a heat-up or recharge time for the SI16410N. Its product page says only that the 2600W element heats the iron up quickly and that the 360° base recharges it rapidly, and it quotes a steam boost of up to 120g/min and a 300ml tank. It has a self-clean function and can be used corded for longer sessions. Like every cordless iron it cools off the base, and Swan gives no figure for how long it stays hot.
- 360° base
- Corded option
- Self-clean
- Loses heat quickly
- Fiddly to re-seat on the base
Our verdict: Quick shirt touch-ups.
What other UK testers say
Mumsnet Swears By agrees with this guide’s top pick, naming the Tefal Freemove Power its best cordless iron overall; its editor’s full review scored it 89/100 and said it beat the Morphy Richards Easy Charge Power+ on charging time and steam power, losing only on its smaller 250ml tank. Expert Reviews differs: its cordless guide leads with the JML Phoenix Gold FreeFlight for long use and gives the Morphy Richards Easycharge its award for hard-water areas, the same role it has in this guide. Which? found cordless irons averaged 57% in its tests against 63% for corded models, and warned that their non-replaceable lithium-ion batteries could limit lifespan. Ideal Home went further than any of them and made a cordless iron, the Morphy Richards easyCHARGE Power+, its best iron overall. Tefal’s Freemove Power page (reference FV6674G0) lists a 960g iron, an 11-second recharge on its base, up to 40g/min of continuous steam and a 220g boost.
How to choose a cordless iron
- Recharge time: the time the iron needs back on the base between strokes. Under 15 seconds is barely noticeable.
- Base design: 360° bases (Morphy Richards, Tower) let you dock from any angle. Horizontal bases (Tefal) avoid lifting the iron upright.
- Corded option: hybrid models (Tower, Swan) let you plug in for big sessions.
- Steam and weight: cordless irons have less steam than corded ones, so a strong shot (180g+) helps on stubborn creases.
Travelling? A dual-voltage travel iron such as the travel iron or a handheld steamer packs much smaller than a cordless iron.
Frequently asked questions
Are cordless irons any good?
Yes, for shirts, small loads and tight spaces. They heat on a base and stay hot for about 25–35 seconds per charge, so they are slower than corded irons on big piles. Which? finds they score slightly lower on average than corded irons.
What is the best cordless iron in the UK?
The Tefal Freemove Power (FV6676): light, a strong 220g shot and an 11-second recharge. It was Mumsnet’s best cordless iron in 2026.
How long does a cordless iron stay hot?
Typically 25–35 seconds of steam ironing off the base, then a few seconds back on the base to reheat. Hybrid models can also be used corded.
Is the Tefal Freemove Air still available?
The Freemove Air FV6550 was out of stock at Amazon UK when we last checked. The newer Freemove Power (FV6676) is its replacement, and the Freemove Air is not currently sold at Amazon UK.
