This is a research-based review. We have not tested this model ourselves: it brings together the Amazon UK listing, Tefal’s specifications, independent UK reviews and patterns in verified owner reviews at Amazon UK, compared against the other steam generators we cover.

Verdict: the Tefal Pro Express Vision GV9820 is the best steam generator we cover if you iron a lot and want the most steam. It has 9 bar, 180g/min of continuous steam and a 750g boost, an LED light at the tip that shows creases, Smart Steam that releases steam as you move, and Tefal’s rinse-out scale collector. Expert Reviews named it the best steam generator for steam production. Its weak points are a small 1.2L tank for this much steam, a short 1.6m cable, a big base and a high price; some owners also report leaks. If you want a bigger tank and one setting for every fabric for less, the Pro Express Protect GV9230 is the better buy, and the Philips PerfectCare 7000 is the best choice if you never want to set a temperature.

The Pro Express Vision is Tefal’s most powerful high-pressure steam generator and our best steam generator overall. Tefal says its 9 bar and 750g boost can cut 30 minutes off a session compared with a traditional steam iron, and testers often find they only need to iron one side of a garment.

It is in stock at Amazon UK, sold by Amazon, as the UK model GV9820G0. Some listings label the same iron GV9821. This review covers its specifications, what owners report, and how it compares with the alternatives.

  • Continuous steam: 180g/min
  • Boost: 750g/min
  • Tank: 1.2L, removable
  • Smart features: LED crease light, Smart Steam motion sensor
  • Soleplate: Durilium AirGlide
  • Anti-scale: Removable scale collector
  • Auto shut-off: Yes
  • Extras: Vertical steam, anti-drip, controls on the handle
  • Power cable: 1.6m (Amazon listing)

Steam. 9 bar, 180g/min and a 750g boost put it at the top of Tefal’s range and level with the best from Philips. Expert Reviews named it the best steam generator for steam production. That pressure pushes steam right through thick cotton, linen and bedding, so one side is often enough. Owners at Amazon UK say it heats up quickly and makes ironing much faster and easier.

The LED light. Tefal’s Smart LED Vision lights the fabric in front of the tip when the iron is flat, or when you hold the steam button for 2 seconds. Low-angle light shows creases you would otherwise miss, especially on dark clothes or in poor light. It sounds like a gimmick but is genuinely useful in a dim room.

Smart Steam. A motion sensor releases steam automatically when you move the iron, so you press the trigger less. All controls are on the handle.

Scale. Tefal’s removable scale collector is the easiest descaling system on any steam generator: unscrew, rinse under the tap and refit. Tefal says it collects up to 10 times more limescale particles. See how to clean a steam generator.

Weak points. The 1.2L tank is small for this much steam, so a big session means refilling; the Protect and Express Airglide have 1.8L. The power cable is 1.6m by the Amazon listing, and the cord does not fully retract. The base is large and heavy and needs a sturdy board with a steam generator rest. Several owners report leaks, which with any steam generator usually come from steaming before the base is ready or from scale; if a new unit leaks from day one, return it. Value for money gets mixed comments: it is one of the most expensive steam generators we cover.

Pros

  • 9 bar, 180g/min and a 750g boost
  • LED light shows creases
  • Smart Steam motion sensor
  • Rinse-out scale collector
  • Auto shut-off
Cons

  • Small 1.2L tank
  • Short 1.6m cable
  • Large, heavy base
  • Expensive
  • Some owners report leaks

Our verdict: Families and anyone who irons a lot of shirts and bedding every week.

The Vision has the most steam of the Tefals and the only crease light. The Protect costs less and has a bigger tank; see our Protect review. The PerfectCare 7000 has Philips’ OptimalTEMP, so you never set a temperature; see our PerfectCare 7000 review. The PerfectCare 8000 matches the Vision on pressure and boost. Compare all of them in our Tefal vs Philips guide.

Getting the best from the Vision

  • Wait for the ready light before steaming; steaming early is the most common cause of spitting.
  • Rinse the scale collector whenever the descale light comes on, more often in hard-water areas.
  • Use the LED light on dark fabrics: iron with the light in front of the tip to spot creases.
  • Use a strong board with a steam generator rest; see boards for steam generators.
  • Use a heavy-duty extension lead if the 1.6m cable does not reach, fully unwound and rated for 13A.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Tefal Pro Express Vision worth it?

Yes, if you iron a lot. It has 9 bar, 180g/min, a 750g boost, an LED crease light and a rinse-out scale collector. If you iron less or want a bigger tank, the Pro Express Protect GV9230 is better value.

What does the LED light on the Tefal Pro Express Vision do?

It lights the fabric in front of the tip when the iron is flat, or when you hold the steam button for 2 seconds, so creases are easier to see.

Does the Tefal GV9820 switch off automatically?

Yes. It has auto shut-off.

How big is the tank on the Tefal Pro Express Vision?

1.2L, and it is removable. That is smaller than the 1.8L tanks on the Pro Express Protect and Express Airglide.

What is the difference between the Tefal GV9820 and GV9821?

They are the same iron; the code changes with the listing or colour. The UK Amazon listing we link to is the GV9820G0.

Tefal Pro Express Vision or Philips PerfectCare 7000?

The Vision has more pressure and boost and a crease light. The PerfectCare 7000 has OptimalTEMP, so you never set a temperature, and a bigger 1.5L tank.
