Verdict: the Philips 2000 Series PSG2000 is the cheapest sensible way to move from a steam iron to a steam generator. It has 6 bar, 130g/min of continuous steam, a 300g boost and a 1.4L tank, a ceramic soleplate, auto shut-off, and it is compact, at 2.3kg in total. Philips says it irons up to 25% faster than a steam iron. Its weak points are lower pressure than mid-range models, no OptimalTEMP, a 1.6m cord and hose, and mixed owner reviews on steam and glide. For more steam at a similar price tier, the Tefal Express Airglide is the step up.
Steam generators push steam out at several times the pressure of a normal iron, but most cost several times as much as a basic iron. The 2000 Series is Philips’ entry-level model and our “best budget” pick in our best steam generator irons guide, where it replaced the now-unavailable Russell Hobbs 24420.
It is in stock at Amazon UK, sold by Amazon, as the UK model PSG2000/20. It has fewer owner ratings so far than older steam generators, so we weigh them alongside the specifications.

Steam. 6 bar and 130g/min are entry-level for a steam generator but well beyond any steam iron, and the 300g boost deals with thick cotton. Philips says it irons up to 25% faster than a traditional steam iron. Owner reviews are mixed: many praise the steam, while a few say it produces hardly any, which can point to a unit fault or scale.
Size and weight. At 2.3kg in total it is light and compact for a steam generator, easy to lift onto a board and store in a cupboard. Owners like the low weight most.
Tank. The 1.4L transparent tank gives up to an hour of use in Eco mode by Philips’ figure, and you can refill it at any time through the large filling door.
Soleplate. A non-stick, scratch-resistant ceramic soleplate. Glide gets mixed owner comments; it is not in the same league as Philips’ SteamGlide Elite or Tefal’s Durilium.
Weak points. There is no OptimalTEMP, so you set the temperature yourself, unlike pricier Philips models. The cord and hose are 1.6m. Pressure and boost are lower than the Tefal Express Airglide (7.2 bar, 460g) or Russell Hobbs Quiet SuperSteam (7 bar, 200g/min). Value for money gets mixed comments.
